About Us

Districts and communities nationwide are using a Baldrige
based reform strategy to dramatically improve student and system
performance. Early successes in using Baldrige in education prompted
the National Alliance of Business (NAB) to lead the successful effort,
with many leading business and education groups, that convinced to
move Congress in 1998 to extend the Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award
for Performance Excellence to two additional sectors- education and
health care.

In 1999, NAB joined with the American Productivity & Quality Center
(APQC) to form BiE IN-the Baldrige in Education Initiative-to make
this assessment framework available to all states, districts, and
schools nationwide.

BiE IN Vision

BiE IN aims to create the national infrastructure for states and communities
to use Baldrige to meet state performance standards and ensure excellence and equity in the American education
system.

BiE IN Mission

BiE IN will create a high performing education system that continuously improves student performance by developing an online printing of a common language, which willinstill the understanding, and approach at all system levels. This system is designed the help students retain large quantities of information for long periods of time, it is ideal for test prep and college level courses.

BiE IN Three-Point Strategy

  1. Forge a national leadership infrastructure of key business and
education organizations to align education reform policies and
successful practice. BiE IN has also formed a CEO
    Leadership Council to provide corporate
    leadership to BiE IN.
  2. Help states and communities use Baldrige to lead and sustain
long-term improvement efforts. BiE IN is partnering with six state/district
leadership teams to accelerate alignment and build capacity
for continuous improvement. The states (Maryland, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, New Mexico and Texas) are
each supported by two BieIN coaches, who are some of
the most experienced education leaders in the country to help
    implement Baldrige-based reform strategies nationwide.
  3. Provide targeted products and services to key stakeholders engaged
in implementing Baldrige-based improvement efforts. BiE IN has
created a Business Design Team composed of experienced business
partners, business representatives from the 6 BiE IN state leadership
teams, and BiE IN national partner organizations to provide products
and services that accelerate, expand, and sustain business participation
in local Baldrige-based education initiatives. Norm Rickard of
Xerox is Chairperson of this team.
